About Me

Hey, I'm Luis Ronquillo

I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, graduating in 2029. I've been drawn to engineering from an early age through hands-on tinkering and curiosity—taking apart broken watches, digital alarm clocks, and even an old Pac-Man mini arcade machine just to understand how they worked. That curiosity grew into building my own PC and spending countless hours designing and constructing with LEGO, experiences that shaped how I approach problem-solving today.

Now a sophomore, I'm building on that foundation with hands-on industry experience from my R&D engineering internship at ProAmpac, while continuing to explore different technical paths through coursework and extracurricular involvement.

◆ My Passions

Engineering, to me, is about understanding how things work and finding better ways to build them. I enjoy the process of breaking systems down, analyzing their components, and figuring out how design choices affect performance. Whether it's mechanical assemblies, prototyping, or manufacturing methods like 3D printing, I'm excited by the challenge of turning ideas into something tangible.

Outside the classroom, I'm involved in SHPE, Rose Grand Prix Engineering, and the MakerLab / 3D Printing Club, where I enjoy collaborating with other students and gaining exposure to real-world engineering practices. I also value staying active through competitive tennis, pickleball, and distance running, alongside a growing interest in environmental sustainability and multicultural awareness.

◆ Where I'm Headed

I'm still exploring where I want to specialize within mechanical engineering, but I'm especially drawn to hands-on, design-focused experiences. I've already joined Rose Grand Prix Engineering's chassis team, and I'm looking to get involved in additional project-based teams like Design, Build, Fly to keep developing my technical and teamwork skills.

Looking ahead, my goal is to continue learning, building, and challenging myself as an engineer while discovering the fields and problems that excite me most.
